Learn the art of making Mitsuro Hikime Jewellery with Annalin

Discover the beauty of Mitsuro Hikime, a unique wax-working method used to create naturally flowing, organic textures in jewellery and sculpture. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to prepare and manipulate Mitsuro Hikime wax into models which can be cast into metal. The resulting sculptural forms cannot be replicated by other forging or carving methods.

From a place of consistent practice I will guide you step by step to create your own wax designs which will be suitable for casting into precious and non precious metal. The present moment process encourages creativity and acceptance as each piece you form will be truly one of a kind.

This workshop is suitable for beginners and experienced makers. By the end of the session you will leave with a deeper understanding of this fascinating jewellery and sculpture making technique. You will have the knowledge and skill to move forward with your own Mitsuro Hikime practice.

The workshop will be held at English Bridge Studios, Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury, SY2 6AD and will have a maximum of 8 participants.

Details of how to find English Bridge Studios and where to park are on their website contact page.

Suitable for:

This workshop is suitable for beginners with no jewellery making experience and is also suitable for jewellery designer makers and creatives wishing to explore this sculptural practice for use in their own work.

Safety:

Please wear closed toe shoes or boots and if you would like to bring an apron that is up to you.

Materials:

All tools and materials will be provided and you will leave with some Mitsuro Hikime wax and written information and guidance on how to continue your practice after you leave the workshop.

Outcome: You will create at least one unique Mitsuro Hikime wax model ready for casting into jewellery. You are welcome to take your models with you and you could have them cast with your preferred casting house.

There are 2 other options:

Each is priced differently and you can decide and pay for these on the day of the workshop, the date and time of the extra session will be confirmed once the initial workshop on the 2nd August has been completed.

For an additional  £30 you can select one of your models to be cast in brass and I will finish, polish and return it to you by post.

For an additional £90 participants who have some experience and skill in jewellery making or metal work can have a second shorter session of approximately 3 hours where we will finish and polish your casting. If you are choosing this option I will include the cost of casting in brass. If you wish to have your model cast in silver I will charge you the additional cost for casting and this will depend on the size of your model and the final weight of the cast piece. If casting in silver the cast item will need to be less than 7.8 grams when cast to avoid the need for hallmarking. This option is for makers who intend to take the practice further . I will be able to guide you in all aspects of the process from design, through casting and finishing your pieces ready for sale.
